Imagine opening your custom watercolor wedding invitations and seeing the very place where you’ll exchange your vows, captured in a watercolor created just for you.

Perhaps it’s a historic chapel surrounded by palm trees, a romantic estate tucked into the countryside, or a coastal venue overlooking the water. Maybe it’s the flowers you’ve carefully chosen, a meaningful architectural detail, or a destination that holds a special place in your story.

These are the details that can transform beautiful wedding stationery into something deeply personal.

At Do Tell A Belle, I create custom watercolor wedding invitations that bring those details to life through original artwork, thoughtful design, and professionally printed stationery.

But what does it actually look like to have wedding invitations created just for you?

Let me take you behind the design.

It Begins With Your Story, Not a Template

One of my favorite parts of creating custom wedding invitations is discovering what makes each couple’s celebration unique.

Elegant watercolor wedding invitations featuring a burgundy laser-cut gatefold, floral watercolor artwork, and coordinating details card, styled with wedding rings and romantic accessories.

Sometimes the inspiration is immediately obvious. A couple may have fallen in love with their wedding venue and want its architecture featured on their invitations.

Other times, the inspiration comes from smaller details: the colors of a garden, a favorite flower, the landscape surrounding a destination wedding, or a particular feeling they want their guests to experience.

Before we begin working together, I want to understand more than your wedding date and color palette. I want to know what you’re envisioning. The first step is to complete my inquiry form, where you can share your ideas, inspiration, and the details that will help me bring your vision to life. I’ll personally review your inquiry and respond within one business day.

Are you drawn to a romantic, traditional invitation suite? Something fresh and coastal? An elegant design with unexpected details? Do you love delicate watercolor florals, or would you prefer an architectural illustration that celebrates your venue?

These conversations help shape a stationery design that feels like an extension of your wedding. The goal isn’t simply to create invitations that match your colors. It’s to create something that feels unmistakably yours.

From a Favorite Photograph to a Custom Watercolor Painting

One of the most meaningful ways to personalize wedding invitations is with a watercolor illustration of your wedding venue.

Your venue is more than a backdrop. It’s the place where an important chapter of your story will unfold.

Imagine your guests receiving an invitation featuring a custom watercolor painting of the chapel where you’ll say your vows or the estate where everyone will gather to celebrate.

Before they even arrive, they’re being introduced to a place that matters to you.

For couples who commission original artwork, I work from photographs of the venue, studying its architecture, landscaping, and distinguishing features.

I consider which details will make the location recognizable while creating a composition that feels beautiful as a watercolor.

A sweeping entrance, distinctive windows, flowering trees, or a graceful roofline might become the focal point of the painting.

The process begins with a sketch for approval before I move into the original watercolor painting.

Once completed, the artwork is professionally digitized so it can be incorporated into your wedding stationery.

And because the painting was created specifically for you, the original watercolor can become a keepsake long after the wedding.

A More Flexible Approach to Custom Venue Artwork

Not every couple needs an original painting on watercolor paper.

For those who love the appearance of watercolor artwork but prefer a different investment, I also offer digitally created watercolor-style venue illustrations.

Both approaches allow you to feature your own wedding venue in your stationery, but the creative processes and finished artwork are different.

An original hand-painted watercolor is created with paint on paper, while a digital watercolor is created digitally and does not include a physical original painting. The right choice depends on the experience, artwork, and keepsake you’re envisioning.

Designing the Invitation Suite Around Your Artwork

Once the artwork is ready, the next step is bringing everything together into a cohesive invitation suite. This is where watercolor artwork becomes part of a larger design.

The invitation itself might feature a beautiful illustration of your venue, with typography chosen to complement the artwork rather than compete with it.

An envelope liner could reveal another watercolor detail when your guests open the envelope.

A coordinating RSVP card might incorporate florals from the painting, while a die-cut insert introduces an unexpected shape or finishing touch.

Even subtle choices, such as paper color, typography, and the placement of each design element, influence the finished presentation. I carefully consider how every piece works together, from the main invitation to the smallest enclosure. Throughout the design process, I work closely with you, offering guidance and helping you navigate each decision so that creating your wedding stationery feels exciting rather than overwhelming.

The most successful custom wedding invitations aren’t necessarily the ones with the most details. They’re the ones where every detail feels intentional.

The Little Details That Make Wedding Invitations Personal

There are so many ways to make custom watercolor wedding invitations feel like a reflection of your celebration.

For one couple, the most important detail might be the wedding venue itself.

For another, it might be a collection of flowers inspired by the bridal bouquet.

A destination wedding could inspire artwork featuring local architecture, tropical foliage, or a landscape that immediately transports guests to the setting.

Even the shape of an enclosure card can become part of the design story.

I especially love creating invitation suites where the artwork and finishing details complement one another.

A watercolor floral illustration might inspire a coordinating die-cut insert. A venue painting might influence the colors used throughout the suite. An envelope liner might introduce a beautiful detail that appears again elsewhere in the stationery.

These choices help create a cohesive design without making every piece look identical.

They also give your guests something to discover as they open the invitation.

Your Wedding Stationery Can Tell One Beautiful Story

One of the advantages of commissioning custom watercolor artwork is the opportunity to carry it beyond the invitation itself.

Imagine introducing your venue with a watercolor save-the-date, featuring the artwork again on your formal invitations, and then incorporating coordinating details into the stationery guests see on your wedding day.

The same visual story can continue through pieces such as:

  • Welcome signs and wedding programs
  • Menus and place cards
  • Seating displays and escort cards
  • Favor tags and other personalized details

Not every item needs to feature the complete painting.

Sometimes a small architectural detail, a floral element, or a carefully chosen color is enough to connect the pieces.

The result is a wedding stationery collection that feels cohesive from the first announcement to the celebration itself.

What Is It Like to Work With a Custom Wedding Invitation Designer?

Watercolor wedding invitations designer Victoria Grigaliunas of Do Tell A Belle in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

If you’ve never commissioned custom wedding stationery, you may be wondering where to begin.

You don’t need to have every design decision figured out before reaching out.

Some couples come to me with a very specific vision. Others know they love watercolor artwork but aren’t quite sure how they want to incorporate it. Both are wonderful starting points.

We begin by discussing your wedding, the stationery pieces you’re interested in, and the overall direction you’re envisioning.

If your design includes custom venue artwork, we’ll discuss the photographs and details needed to develop the illustration.

From there, the artwork and stationery design take shape through the creative process, with opportunities to review the design before it moves into production.

Once the designs are approved, the stationery can be professionally printed and finished according to the details selected for your suite.

My role is to bring artistic experience and design guidance to the process while creating stationery that reflects your preferences. You bring your story, your inspiration, and the details that matter most. Together, those elements become something tangible that you can share with the people you love.

When Should You Begin Planning Custom Watercolor Wedding Invitations?

If you’re considering original watercolor artwork or a fully custom invitation suite, I encourage you to begin the conversation early. Custom stationery involves more than selecting a design and sending it to print.

There may be artwork to create, design details to develop, proofs to review, and specialized printing or finishing to coordinate. Beginning early also gives you more flexibility if you decide to incorporate additional pieces or make adjustments during the design process.

Ideally, couples planning fully custom stationery should reach out approximately eight to twelve months before the wedding, or sooner if possible, particularly for elaborate suites or weddings during busy seasons.

Are Custom Watercolor Wedding Invitations Right for You?

Custom watercolor wedding invitations are especially meaningful for couples who want their stationery to reflect something personal about their celebration.

You might love the idea of featuring your wedding venue, incorporating original floral artwork, or creating an invitation suite that doesn’t look like something your guests have seen before.

You may also appreciate the experience of collaborating directly with an artist who can translate your inspiration into a finished design. Custom stationery isn’t about adding embellishments simply for the sake of making something elaborate. It’s about choosing the details that matter to you and creating a beautiful introduction to your wedding.

And for some couples, that includes commissioning a piece of original artwork they’ll treasure long after the invitations have been mailed.

Let’s Create Something Beautiful for Your Wedding

Your wedding invitations are among the first tangible details your guests will experience.

They introduce your celebration, offer a glimpse of what’s to come, and become a keepsake of an extraordinary moment in your lives.

I believe they should be as thoughtful and personal as the wedding you’re planning.

Whether you’re dreaming of a custom watercolor venue illustration, delicate floral artwork, or a complete invitation suite designed around your vision, I’d love to hear what you have in mind.
