Sangria, a beloved Spanish wine-based cocktail, has its origins deeply rooted in the Iberian Peninsula. The drink’s history can be traced back to ancient civilizations, where wine was a staple of daily life. The word “sangria” itself is derived from the Spanish word “sangre,” meaning blood, which likely alludes to the rich, red hue of the beverage. While the exact moment of its creation remains shrouded in mystery, sangria as we know it today began to take shape in Spain during the Middle Ages. To enhance the flavor of sometimes subpar wines, locals began adding a mix of fruits, spices, and sweeteners to their vino. Over the centuries, this practice evolved into the delightful and refreshing concoction we enjoy today, often served during warm summer months as a testament to Spain’s culinary and cultural heritage…I like making a nice red sangria for my fall gatherings because it pairs beautifully with fall fruits. Red Wine Sangria Recipe

For the best flavors I like to prepare my red wine sangria a day in advance. This allows all the goodness to meld together.

Ingredients:
1/3 cup OJ
1 bottle red wine
1 green apple chopped into bite size pieces
1 orange sliced then quartered
1 lemon sliced then quartered
1/2 – 1 cup of orange liqueur

Directions:
Add all of your ingredients to a pitcher and stir. Chill over night and serve in red wine glasses.

My Tips for Hosting:
I love hosting dinner parties where most of the cooking is done a day in advance. This allows me to be well rested and enjoy my company. Typically I like to plan my menu 3-4 days in advance. Shop 2 days prior to the dinner party. Then do all of my prepping and as much cooking as I can the day before. This includes setting the table. Remember to add a beautiful bouquet of flowers and some candles to your shopping list.
